Very few libraries under the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Libraries can claim such old and rich history as the Goschen Library. Founded in 1926, the building existed before it was made into 'The Goschen Library'. It was used as a public hall and library, set up by Vijayaraghavulu Chetty who wanted to encourage reading among local residents. The hall was also used for nationalist meetings and public gatherings. Today, it is most popular for its reading room, with its regular supply of newspapers and magazines. Caught in red tape, the library is in desperate need of attention and restoration.
